Secrets of Surf Travel — The World. The Waves. The Adventure.

Sydney Gateway

The Sydney & South Coast zone starts at Sydney Airport (SYD), on Botany Bay in the middle of the zone map. This is the logistics page for the connection: where to sleep, where to eat, who drives, how the trains and ferries reach the beaches, and where to find a surf shop.

Researched

This gateway page is a first, light version. Every listing is a real local business found on paper and not yet verified in person; prices, hours and details are strong starting points, not gospel.

Logistics

Getting There

Sydney Airport (SYD) is the major international gateway for the whole Sydney & South Coast zone, from Port Stephens in the north to Jervis Bay in the south. The airport sits on Botany Bay, on the south side of the city, with train, bus and ferry connections to the beaches (reported on the zone page).

Standard Australian ETA and eVisitor rules apply for most nationalities (reported on the zone page). Entry rules depend on your passport, so check the official source before you book.

Logistics

Getting Out of the Airport

  • To Bondi: about a 17-minute drive to Bondi Junction (rideshare AU$45-60, about 30 minutes in total to the beach), or the Airport Link train to Bondi Junction (13 minutes) plus the 333 bus (10 minutes), roughly AU$25 and 35 minutes in total (reported on the zone page).
  • To Manly: about a 29-minute drive (taxi AU$60-80), or the train to Wynyard (19 minutes) plus the Manly Fast Ferry (15 minutes), AU$19-35 and 44-60 minutes in total (reported on the zone page).
  • Manly and Bondi are not a day trip apart: 40-60 minutes each way by ferry and bus, train or car (reported on the zone page).
  • Public transport: Sydney is well served by trains, ferries and buses. A car is only needed from Wollongong south (reported on the zone page).
