Secrets of Surf Travel — The World. The Waves. The Adventure.

Siargao Gateway

The Siargao zone starts at Siargao Airport (IAO) in Sayak. This is the logistics page for the connection: where to sleep, where to eat, who drives the airport run, how the ferry and flight routes work, and where to find a surf shop.

Researched

This gateway page is a first, light version. Every listing is a real local business found on paper and not yet verified in person; prices, hours and details are strong starting points, not gospel.

Logistics

Getting There

Siargao Airport (IAO) in Barangay Sayak, Del Carmen, is the gateway for the Siargao zone, roughly 30-40 minutes from General Luna. International travelers usually connect through Manila or Cebu. Cebu Pacific says there are no direct Manila to Siargao flights: its turboprop flights now operate from Clark (CRK, six times a week), and for travel from Manila it recommends connecting through Cebu (CEB), which has about five flights a day to Siargao, about 1 hour (reported on the zone page).

Register free on the government's eTravel system within 72 hours before arrival, and use only etravel.gov.ph. US and EU passports are visa-free for 30 days with a return or onward ticket and a passport valid six months beyond your stay, and the stay can be extended through the Bureau of Immigration (reported on the Philippines entry page). Rules depend on your passport, so check the official source before you book. The full list is in Getting Into the Philippines.

Logistics

Getting Out of the Airport

  • To General Luna: roughly 30-40 minutes from the airport (reported on the zone page).
  • Boards: Cebu Pacific's turboprop flights carry a 6 ft surfboard limit with case (reported).
  • Philippine Airlines: it sells Manila to Siargao itineraries from NAIA Terminal 2 but does not say whether they are nonstop, so check the itinerary before you book (reported).
  • Book ahead: frequency is modest, so reserve early in peak season, August-November (reported).

Other Ways Onto the Island

  • Siargao Airport (IAO): the island's own airport (this page).
  • Clark (CRK): Cebu Pacific's Siargao turboprop flights now operate from Clark, six times a week (reported).
  • Cebu (CEB): about five flights a day to Siargao, about 1 hour, and the route Cebu Pacific recommends from Manila (reported).
  • Surigao City by ferry: fly to Surigao City on mainland Mindanao, then take a fast-craft ferry to Dapa Port in about 1.5 hours or a slower RORO ferry in 4-5 hours. Evaristo & Sons runs the route, with morning departures, roughly 6-10 am, the most reliable (reported). A less crowded entry point is the Del Carmen Ferry Terminal.

For the full route notes, see the Siargao Getting There section.
