Secrets of Surf Travel — The World. The Waves. The Adventure.

Portland Gateway

The Oregon and Washington Coast zone starts at Portland or Seattle, even though the zone map does not show either: the coast is a drive away and the two halves are separate trips. This is the logistics page for the connection: where to sleep, where to eat, who drives, how the roads reach the zone, and where to find a surf shop.

Researched

This gateway page is a first, light version. Every listing is a real local business found on paper and not yet verified in person; prices, hours and details are strong starting points, not gospel.

Logistics

Getting There

Two airports serve the three hubs of the Oregon and Washington Coast zone. Portland (PDX) serves the Oregon hubs, roughly 2 hours to Cannon Beach and a bit longer to Pacific City. Seattle (SEA) serves Westport, about 2 hours 15 minutes, and at greater distance the Olympic Peninsula hubs (reported on the zone page). Pacific City to Westport is about 4.5 hours and Westport to La Push and Neah Bay another 3 or more hours, so this is realistically two or three separate trips.

The zone page has no separate entry section for this gateway. Entry rules depend on your passport, so check the official source before you book.

Logistics

Getting Out of the Airport

  • Airport shuttle: shuttles run from PDX; the zone page found a shuttle bench only on the PDX to Cannon Beach corridor (reported). Ask about board bags.
  • Rental car: the practical way to every hub; ask about roof racks.
  • Seattle to Westport: no airport shuttle was found for this leg (reported on the zone page), so plan on a rental car.
