Secrets of Surf Travel — The World. The Waves. The Adventure.

Buenos Aires Gateway

Every Argentina trip starts in Buenos Aires, even though the zone map does not show it: Ezeiza for the international flight, Aeroparque for the hop to Mar del Plata, and a night in between. This is the logistics page for that night: where to sleep, where to eat, who drives, which flights and coaches reach the coast, and where to find a surf shop.

Researched

This gateway page is a first, light version. Every listing is a real local business found on paper and not yet verified in person; prices, hours and details are strong starting points, not gospel.

Logistics

Getting There

Ministro Pistarini International (EZE, Ezeiza) is Argentina’s international gateway, about 30 km south of Buenos Aires, with American Airlines and Aerolíneas Argentinas flying direct from Miami and Dallas and Copa connecting through Panama (reported on the Argentina page). Aeroparque (AEP) is the close-in domestic airport with flights to Mar del Plata. Buenos Aires is not a surf town; it is the logistics base for the Argentina zone, where most trips spend a night before the coast.

Argentina requires no visa for 90 days for most passports, with the passport valid for at least six months beyond arrival, and a sworn declaration of health insurance is required (the zone page covers the details and the August 2026 hospital billing rule). See the Argentina Getting There section.

Logistics

Getting Out of the Airport

  • Airport minibus: Manuel Tienda León runs direct trips downtown or to its Puerto Madero terminal at a fixed fare; confirm the current price.
  • Remise or official taxi: fixed fares by destination and vehicle, with official Taxi Ezeiza counters open 24 hours; confirm tolls and vehicle size for a board bag.
  • Bus 8: the cheapest option, reported at 1.5 to 2 hours into the city with a SUBE card; not suited to boards.
  • EZE to AEP: the Argentina page says to allow four to five hours for the cross-city transfer, traffic and check-in before a domestic flight from Aeroparque; plan a night in Buenos Aires rather than a tight connection.
Logistics

Flights and Coaches to Mar del Plata

  • By air: Mar del Plata (MDQ) is domestic-only, with about 15 flights a week on Aerolíneas Argentinas from Aeroparque, per the Argentina page; we have not confirmed other carriers.
  • By coach: long-distance buses to Mar del Plata leave from the Retiro terminal; we could not confirm current operators, times or board-bag rules, so check with the coach company before you book.
  • By car: a hire car with a driver or a self-drive is the flexible option for Mar del Plata, Chapadmalal and Miramar; allow for tolls on the route.

For zone-by-zone logistics, see the Argentina Getting There section.

Logistics FAQ

Questions People Actually Ask.

Which airport do I fly into for Mar del Plata?

Ezeiza (EZE) for international flights. The domestic hop to Mar del Plata leaves from Aeroparque (AEP) across the city, so a night in Buenos Aires is the safe plan.

How far is Ezeiza from the city?

About 30 km south of Buenos Aires. A remise or official taxi is the easiest with a board bag; the airport minibus and public bus 8 are cheaper but slower.

Do I need travel insurance for Argentina?

The Argentina page says the decree requires a sworn declaration of health insurance with no confirmed dollar minimum, and that since August 2026 national public hospitals bill non-resident foreigners for non-emergency care without valid insurance.

Can I fly to Mar del Plata?

Yes, from Aeroparque on Aerolíneas Argentinas, about 15 flights a week according to the Argentina page. Confirm current carriers and schedules before booking.

Where do I stay near the airport?

The big hotels are chains; the independents on this page are small hotels and homestays in Ezeiza and Monte Grande. For a longer stay, Palermo is the better base.
