Secrets of Surf Travel — The World. The Waves. The Adventure.

Adelaide Gateway

The Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas start in Adelaide, even though the zone map does not show it: one airport, two very different trips. This is the logistics page for the arrival night: where to sleep, where to eat, who drives, which flights, ferries and roads reach each peninsula, and where to find a board shop.

Researched

This gateway page is a first, light version. Every listing is a real local business found on paper and not yet verified in person; prices, hours and details are strong starting points, not gospel.

Logistics

Getting There

Adelaide Airport (ADL) is the shared gateway for the Yorke & Eyre Peninsulas zone, about 7 km west of the city, but the onward legs are genuinely different trips (per the zone page). Adelaide is not a surf town; it is the logistics base for the road to Yorke Peninsula, the flight or ferry to Port Lincoln and the long drive around Spencer Gulf.

Standard Australian entry rules apply, with an ETA or eVisitor for most nationalities; check requirements for your passport. See the Yorke & Eyre Getting There section.

Logistics

Getting Out of the Airport

  • JetBus: routes J1, J1X and J3 run to the city about every 15 minutes (reported); fares are a standard Metro ticket, about A$4.40 at peak and A$2.50 off-peak in one older source, so confirm. Ask the driver about a board bag.
  • Taxi: reported at about 15 to 20 minutes into the city; fare estimates vary a lot, so confirm the metered rate. Ask for a larger car for a board bag.
  • Rental car or campervan: the practical option for Yorke Peninsula; driving is on the left.
Logistics

Flights, Ferries and Roads to the Peninsulas

  • Port Lincoln (Eyre Peninsula): Rex and QantasLink/Sunstate fly Adelaide to Port Lincoln Airport (PLO) in about 50 minutes, frequently, per the zone page, which calls it arguably the recommended gateway for the Eyre side.
  • By road to Port Lincoln: about 650 km and 7 to 7.5 hours via Port Augusta, the only fully sealed road route (zone page).
  • Wallaroo to Lucky Bay ferry: a vehicle ferry reported at roughly 5.5 to 6 hours door to door, about A$200 per vehicle and up to twice daily, schedule- and weather-dependent (zone page).
  • Yorke Peninsula: about 300 km and 3.5 to 4 hours by sealed road to Marion Bay (zone page). We have not confirmed any coach or small-airline link.

For zone-by-zone logistics, see the Yorke & Eyre Getting There section.
